Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)

RYPEN is a 3-day seminar for participants aged between 14 and 17 years of age. Awardees are sponsored and paid for by Rotary Clubs throughout District 9670. The RYPEN Seminar is conducted by a Rotary Club and is required to comply with the guidelines for a RYPEN Program.

 

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

NYSF is a prestigious and competitive program targets students who wish to become our future medicos, engineers and scientists. The National Youth Science Forum application forms are sent annually from the NYSF office in Canberra to secondary schools in each area during Term 2. Selection takes place in July for attendance at the 12-day program that will be held in the following January. The participants will learn how to make informed decisions about courses and careers in the sciences and gain a professional skill set to help them realise their potential.

 

Rotary Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)

MUNA is all about building bridges of goodwill for world peace and understanding in the minds of our youth. MUNA challenges our youth to respect and tolerate differences of race, religion and nationalism whilst retaining their own individualism and the best of their national traditions. Visit District 9670 MUNA’s Blog or its Facebook page. Interact Interact is Rotary for high school students. The high school-based clubs foster leadership and responsible citizenship and promotes international understanding and peace. Combining the words “international” and “action” created the name. Interact clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs which provide guidance and inspiration, but the Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.The membership base of a club can be drawn from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools from the same community.

RYLA aims to demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth. To encourage continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth. To provide leadership training experience for young people to assist them to be actively and effectively involved with their communities and their work place. Other projects we have been inolved in the past include: Rotary Youth Exchange, Siemens Science Experience, TRY-A-TRADE, RELAYID, Newcastle University Science Summer School and the Honeywell Engineering Summer School

The program is designed to demonstrate commitment in Vocational Service to our younger generation.

Science and Engineering Challenge

Clubs are sent information annually about this program which encourages high school students to take on a science related problem-solving activity within a competitive framework pitting their skills against other student teams. It is usually held at Newcastle University premises.

RYLA

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Youth Exchange

There are 12 month and short-term (6 month) exchange programs available. Students are selected in Year 11, undertake the exchange after Year 12, and live with a host family in a country other than their own. They may learn a new language; they will learn a new way of living and a great deal about themselves. Youth Exchange is an official program of Rotary International and allows around 8000 students to exchange annually to around 60 different countries.

Information is sent to Clubs annually.

RELAYID

Rotary Educational Leadership Award for Youth with Intellectual Disabilities

Seminar held in September of each year for youth with an intellectual disability.

The aims and objectives of the RELAYID seminar weekend are to challenge the participants to be become more self-reliant and to stretch themselves outside their normal comfort zone.

Honeywell Engineering Summer School

Held at University of NSW from 5th – 10th December. ‘First come, first served basis’ – all Year 11 students wanting to study engineering are eligible to apply.

TRY-A-TRADE

This program gives school students aged 16-17 years a hands-on experience in various trades to assist them with making decisions on their future employment. Rotarians are asked to support this program by attending and supervising over the program’s operating days. Some Clubs set-up the venue, others clear away, some source presenters and others provide catering.
